Sikinos

 

Different from other islands, will slowly carry you away as you discover the deepest secrets of the island and its beauty.

This isolated and extremely clean island of the Cyclades with its dry and refreshing atmosphere will undoubtedly make you a faithful visitor.

The Chora shows an exceptional interest with its narrow lanes and its characteristic architecture of the Cyclades islands.

Towards the longitude of the mountain-side you can enjoy the indescribable visual cluster of Ios-Folegandros-Santorini.

 

Sights: Byzantine museum in the Chora. The mansions compose some of the best samples of the traditional architecture of the Cyclades islands.

One the most important samples of the ancient habitation have been found at Episkopi (4km away from the Chora).

Iones were the first to have been installed there and built Sikinos where you can also visit the church of the Assumption of Virgin Mary

which is built at the exact place where the temple of  Pythiou Apollonos was situated B.C.

In fact, it is obvious that the church has been built with the materials of the older church. Another sight, worth seeing, is the Monastery of  Zoodohou Pigis

(Source of  Life) which is located above the Chora (town) and looks like a castle because it used to be shelter for inhabitants in order to escape from the pirates.

 

Beaches: Agios Panteleimonas, Maltas, Santorineika, Alopronia, Aghios Giorgis, Dialiskari

General Information: Sikinos provides a petrol station, car and scooter rental,

ATM's for cash, trekking, kayaking, scuba diving and picturesque walks.

 

What To Buy: honey made of thyme and sour milk.

 

Local Festivals: Sikinos island is every year celebrating with great festivities:

Pandanassa on the 27th of March, Zoodohou Pigis on the 25th of April,

the 15th of August, and on the 21st of November.
